@sav_imagines a lot of it devolves down to "microsoft bad ai bad" i know, but that's kinda the truth. microsoft has been more keen on taking your data to train their ais and promoting said ai more than the core business of github, if you look at githubs homepage when not logged in it looks like "ai this ai that, also we host code sometimes".

this kind of centralization is also horrible for open source resilience, nevermind the fact that the serverside code are proprietary.

there's most likely a lot more reasons to throw github in the trash, but that's the main reasons i can think of that makes it an unviable platform for us. although microsoft has been turning in the right direction when it comes to open source software (and i have to commend them for that), relying on github for arguably one of our most critical pieces of infrastructure is just unacceptable for us.

@sav_imagines when forgejo or even gitlab, open source and privacy respecting software forges, are a thing and something one can just host on a vps (or use another publicly available instance), using github for me is hardly justifiable imo

@tasiaiso @sav_imagines I kind of wish it were possible to do pull requests etc between gitea and forjego instances without needing to have a bunch of different accounts everywhere.
