@jonmsterling it REALLY shits me when I investigate installing a tool and rather than figure out how to package it properly for normal people to use they just give a nix formula.
@jonmsterling i've occasionally had students who are using Nix to manage their packages or whatever and the only observable difference between those students and my other students who just use conventional tools is the Nix-using students spend a much larger percentage of their time futzing around with their toolchain.
@liamoc There might be two groups: one group uses those tools; the other group spending so many time on tools themselves. Maybe only the second group is observed to use Nix
@liamoc I am using nix for what can actually make my life easier; and I use homebrew or apt or language specific packaging manager when they are faster to get jobs done. I am never spending time to make everything confine to one tool
