@jonmsterling I would like a smaller phone, though. I hardly use it other than for trivial quick things, although I am forced to carry it with me all the time for several reasons.
@MartinEscardo Blame the shift from 16:9 to 2:1; phones have become taller for the same width. When I bought a "new" phone last year I searched for a phone that was not too large but then it has to be a few years old and only Android 9 and application support is beginning to be dropped therefor.
@dgb37@MartinEscardo The good thing about Apple's phones is that they continue to be usable (in terms of software support) for way longer than Android phones.
My wife only upgraded from an iPhone 8 (released in 2017) a few months ago; that's NINE years of the phone working totally fine before app support (like banking, etc.) started to drop off.
@jonmsterling I like my MacBook Air running macOS, but I hate my iPad running iOS. I much prefer my older Android tablet for writing by hand, on which I now run LineageOS because the original Android ran out of updates (and which, by the way, is much faster than the original Android OS).
So I will never get an iPhone. I got an Android phone with at least 7 years of promised updates. When it runs out, it will either be too old or I will install GrapheneOS.
And macOS integration with Android phones/tablets is available for over a decade, before it was available with iPhones, using scrcpy, which I use for lectures to use my tablet as a whiteboard in modern whiteboard-less lecture theatres (starting 2016, when I got my first tablet).
